Information Architecture & User Interface Planning

Information Architecture, or IA, is an integral part of any Web site or software development project. IA is the science of creating a visual blueprint from which other aspects of the product spring. With roots in library science and software usability, it is the foundation for any good web site or software specification and is critical to plan and illustrate the product prior to actual development.

Cypress creates successful websites and web applications that provide logical structures that help users find the information they are looking for and complete their functional tasks with ease.

Our Information Architects work closely with our clients to understand the user needs for their sites and web applications, and the hierarchy of the information to be presented to users. Every web site or web application has a specific user group, or groups, who are the core users. The web site or application also has a specific business goal, or goals, it is meant to facilitate. Clearly understanding both the target users and the goals of the site allow Cypress to create a user-task matrix, one of the key components of Information Architecture. Completion of this leads to the development of both the site map and storyboards.

Good Information Architecture ensures:

  • The business goals and objectives are at the forefront of the product design.
  • The product navigation and functionality is consistent and adheres to strict standards of usability.
  • The nomenclature used throughout the website or application is clear and concise.
  • The product is tailored to specific user groups as required.
  • The project stakeholders know how the product will look and function before it is built.Continue >
